The Africa CDC is proud to announce the Young African Public Health Scholars Programme, an annual scholarship initiative designed to strengthen the public health workforce across African Union Member States. This prestigious programme awards scholarships to 10 young African scholars each year for an 18-month master’s degree in epidemiology at the University of the Witwatersrand School of Public Health, South Africa.

Programme Details:

  • Scholarship Coverage: The programme offers full scholarships for the following master’s degree courses:
    • Epidemiology and Biostatistics
    • Field Epidemiology
    • Infectious Diseases Epidemiology
    • Public Health Informatics
    • Biostatistics
    • Implementation Science
  • Target Audience: Preference is given to candidates currently working with the National Public Health Institutes (NPHI) in their respective countries. The goal is to enhance the public health workforce capacity across African Union Member States.
  • Study Duration: 18 months
  • Host Institution: University of the Witwatersrand School of Public Health, South Africa

Application Deadline: 31 August each year

The scholarship programme began in 2018, with the first cohort of eight scholars embarking on their studies. Since then, the programme has continued to support young African scholars in their pursuit of advanced public health education, contributing significantly to the continent’s public health infrastructure.
