Applications Open for RWJF Health Policy Fellows Program: A Unique Opportunity for Mid-Career Health Professionals

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Health Policy Fellows program is now accepting applications for its 2024-2025 cohort. This prestigious fellowship offers mid-career health professionals, behavioral/social scientists, and others with a strong interest in health and health policy the chance to work at the nexus of health, science, and policy in Washington, D.C.

Applications are open and will close on November 5th at 3 PM ET. To apply, candidates must submit their applications via MyRWJF, the RWJF online system.

About the Fellowship

The RWJF Health Policy Fellows program is the nation’s most comprehensive learning experience at the intersection of health, science, and policy. It seeks to identify and support exceptional mid-career professionals who are ready to contribute to national health policy and to lead in improving health equity, healthcare, and health policy at all levels.

Fellows are required to commit full-time to a 12-month residency in Washington, D.C., beginning in September 2024. The program includes an intensive orientation followed by hands-on work in a congressional or executive branch office. During this time, fellows will:

  • Develop legislative or regulatory proposals
  • Organize hearings, briefings, and stakeholder meetings
  • Meet with constituents
  • Brief legislators or senior administration officials on health issues
  • Provide staff support for House-Senate conferences

Fellows are also engaged in ongoing seminars and group discussions on federal policy topics, and they receive training in strategic communications and leadership development.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

This fellowship is open to mid-career professionals from academic institutions, government, nonprofit health organizations, and other relevant sectors. Eligible applicants must have an advanced degree in disciplines such as medicine, nursing, public health, allied health professions, biomedical sciences, dentistry, economics, social sciences, health services organization and administration, social and behavioral health, or health law.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents at the time of application. Additionally, applicants should demonstrate a record of professional achievement, leadership potential in health policy, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and a clear plan for incorporating the fellowship experience into their career goals.

Important Dates

  • November 5th, 2023: Application deadline at 3 PM ET
  • Mid-January 2024: Finalists selected for in-person interviews
  • February 2024: In-person interviews in Washington, D.C.
  • September 2024: Fellowship begins with an intensive orientation
