Apply Now: University of the Free State (UFS) Postgraduate Diploma Tuition Fee Bursaries for 2025

The University of the Free State (UFS) invites applications for the Postgraduate Diploma Tuition Fee Bursaries for the 2025 academic year. This bursary aims to support students financially while they pursue their postgraduate diplomas at UFS.

General Eligibility

To be eligible for the bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a registered student at UFS.
  • Open to both South African and international students.
  • A minimum of 65% in the third year of undergraduate studies is required.
  • The award of the bursary cannot be used to pay off outstanding fees from previous years
  • Only students without any other source of funding will be considered. Applicants who are recipients of other funding in 2025 do not qualify.
  • Registration for the Postgraduate Diploma must be after July 2024.
  • UFS staff members and their families receiving study remission are not eligible.
  • Preference will be given to research contributing to the research agenda of the UFS.

Conditions of the Bursary

Bursary recipients are required to:

  • Attend five Research Capacity Development workshops presented by the Centre for Graduate Support in 2025. Workshops can be attended in person or online
  • Be available for 120 hours of service to the university during the academic year if needed.
  • Pay relevant prepayments for student accommodation as per UFS policies. To obtain the exact amount payable prior to registration, visit the UFS website, Student Finance or email tuitionfees@ufs.ac.za

The bursary will be cancelled if the student:

  • Cancels their postgraduate studies.
  • Is excluded from the academic program due to misconduct.
  • Fails to attend the five Research Capacity Development workshops
  • Is unavailable for the 120 hours of university service.

Financial Allocation

The bursary covers tuition fees up to R27,000, credited to the student’s UFS Tuition Fee account upon successful registration as a postgraduate student. Students remain liable for payment of all other fees, levies and ad hoc charges levied to their student accounts. These charges may include, but are not limited to, part of the tuition fee, study guide fees, residence fees.

Important Dates

  • 30 November 2024: Application deadline.
  • 15 December 2024: Bursary confirmation.

Application Process

Applicants must complete the application form and submit it along with the following documents:

  • Academic record of the third year undergraduate (in PDF format).
  • First semester results if still completing undergraduate studies.
  • Final results by 30 November 2024.
