The Learning Variability Network Exchange (LEVANTE) is offering a unique funding opportunity for researchers focused on child development. This initiative aims to build the first cross-cultural, multidisciplinary open dataset to explore how children learn and develop across different contexts. Here’s what you need to know:
Purpose:
LEVANTE seeks to understand how individual variability, group heterogeneity, and contextual factors influence children’s learning and development. The goal is to improve future learning outcomes for diverse groups of children worldwide.
Target Group:
•Typically developing children aged 5–12.
•Global applications are welcome, with a focus on Colombia, Ghana, Switzerland, and Côte d’Ivoire.
Funding Details:
•Small Projects: Up to CHF 400,000 over a minimum of 3 years.
•Large Projects: Up to CHF 700,000 over a minimum of 3 years.
Project Types:
•Collection of LEVANTE measures in new samples.
•Integration of LEVANTE measures into ongoing or planned studies.
•Supplementation of LEVANTE data collection with other measure types, such as neuroimaging, genetic data, or educational context data.
Eligibility Criteria:
•Main applicants must hold a PhD (or equivalent) obtained at least 5 years before the application deadline.
•Applicants should be affiliated with a research institution and conduct high-quality research in the field of child development.
•A commitment to contributing to LEVANTE and the Jacobs Foundation’s activities is required.
Selection Criteria:
•Scientific quality and feasibility of the proposed project.
•Geographic and demographic diversity of the sample.
•Innovativeness and alignment with LEVANTE’s objectives.
•Inclusion of young scholars in the research team.
Application Process:
•Stage 1: Initial Application (August 12 – October 6, 2024)
•Submit general information, project details, and your CV.
•Stage 2: Extended Proposal (November 20 – December 15, 2024)
•Provide a detailed project description, timeline, and budget.
•Stage 3: Interview (February 3-7, 2025)
•Selected candidates may be invited for an interview with the review panel.
Researchers are encouraged to be creative and consider how they can leverage the LEVANTE framework in their proposals. Applications must be submitted by October 6, 2024.
