Commonwealth Innovative Youth Essay Award: Think Trade, Think Green
The Commonwealth Secretariat proudly announces the Think Trade, Think Green: Commonwealth Innovative Youth Essay Award Competition. This initiative, led by the Trade and Youth teams, seeks to engage young researchers and students in addressing one of the most pressing global challenges: climate change.
Objective
The competition aims to:
•Encourage youth in the Commonwealth to explore the intersection of trade and climate change.
•Inspire innovative proposals on how trade policy can be leveraged to mitigate climate issues.
Essay Topic
•How can trade and trade policy address an aspect of the climate crisis in your country?
•Identify a specific problem linked to the climate crisis.
•Explain how trade or trade policy could be a solution.
Eligibility
•Age: 18-29 years old
•Nationality: Must be a Commonwealth citizen
Important Dates
•Start Date: 15 July 2024
•Submission Deadline: 21 August 2024
•Winners Announced: 2 September 2024
Submission Details
•Word Limit: Maximum 2,000 words (including references and footnotes, excluding the reference list).
•Formatting: 1.5 spacing, Times New Roman font, submitted as a single PDF or Word file.
•Details to Include: Name, Age, Nationality, Contact Info (e-mail, address, telephone), CV or short bio
•Submission Email: Send your essay to tcs@commonwealth.int by 21 August 2024.
Judging Criteria
Essays will be judged on:
•Originality of challenges identified and solutions proposed.
•Quality of writing.
•Alignment with international trade policy frameworks.
All entries will undergo blind peer review by the Trade and Youth Team, with a distinguished panel selecting the winners.
Prizes
•First Prize: £1,000
•Second and Third Prizes: £500 each
•The top three essays will be published in the Trade Competitiveness Briefing Series and showcased at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa, October 2024.
