Overview

The OSCE Academy in Bishkek is hosting an intensive four-day certificate training on “Disinformation and Cybersecurity” from 20 to 23 November 2024. This course will delve into the pivotal role of digital media in shaping public perception, especially in conflict situations, emphasizing the dangers of disinformation and the importance of media literacy and cybersecurity.

Participants will explore how biased reporting and simplified narratives can intensify conflicts, and they will learn strategies to counteract these narratives. A significant component of the training includes a simulation game that examines the impact of cyber-attacks on electoral processes, helping participants understand the ethical dilemmas and defensive strategies in cybersecurity.

Trainers and Organizers

This training is organized by the OSCE Academy in Bishkek in collaboration with CRISP, a Berlin-based organization known for its expertise in using simulation games for conflict transformation and civic education. Trainers include Kateryna Pavlova, COO of CRISP, who brings extensive experience in conflict transformation and disinformation counteraction.

Eligibility

The program is designed for junior and mid-level professionals with a foundational understanding of disinformation and hybrid security threats. Eligible participants include professionals from civil society, NGOs, governmental organizations, journalists, researchers, and activists from Central Asia, specifically Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. Applicants must hold a BA or MA in Social Sciences or a related field, and residents of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan must currently reside in Kyrgyzstan.

Interested candidates must submit their application by 8 September 2024, 12 PM Bishkek time. Applications should include a CV (maximum 2 pages) and a letter of interest (up to 600 words) explaining how the training aligns with their career goals and assessing their current knowledge level in disinformation and cybersecurity. Applications must be sent as a single PDF file to training@osce-academy.net, following the provided instructions.

Selection

Selected candidates will be expected to fully engage in all aspects of the training, completing all required activities and demonstrating progress throughout the program.
