Apply Now: Jean Monnet Fellowships at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies (Open for All Nationalities)

The Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies offers one-year Jean Monnet Fellowships to scholars who have obtained their doctorate more than five years prior to the start of the fellowship (to apply for 2025-26, the Ph.D. should have been awarded before 1 September 2020). The Fellowship programme is open to post-docs, tenure-track academics, and those wishing to spend their sabbatical at the Centre. The Centre offers up to 20 fellowships a year: We invite you to become part of a lively and creative academic community!

Eligibility and Application Process

Jean Monnet Fellows are selected based on a research proposal and their CV. The research proposal should align with one of the Centre’s main research themes, programmes, and projects. Candidates of all nationalities are eligible for the Jean Monnet Fellowships.

Prospective applicants who obtained their doctorate less than five years ago should consider applying to the Max Weber Programme.

Application Steps

  1. Register Early:
    • Insert your personal details and referee information as soon as possible.
    • This allows sufficient time for your referees to submit their reference letters before the deadline. References will not be accepted after the deadline.
  2. Submit by Deadline:
    • Complete your application details and upload the necessary documents by 25 October 2024 (14:00 CEST).
    • Ensure all information is accurate and all attachments are correctly uploaded.

Required Documents

  • CV with a list of publications in PDF
  • Letter of motivation (1-2 pages) in PDF
  • Research proposal (2-4 pages) in PDF

Documents should be formatted using standard international fonts, without macros, special characters, password-protection, electronic signatures, or logos.

The Letter of Motivation and Research Proposal should comply with the EUI Guidelines for the Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence for Research. In particular, candidates should refrain from having Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) autonomously write substantial or integral parts of the documents. Letters of Reference

Referees will be contacted after you register your application, and they can submit their references online. Make sure to inform your referees about your application and verify that they have received the email request. References must be submitted by 25 October 2024 (14:00 CEST).

Please note that reference letters can be submitted by the registered referees (before the deadline) even after you have submitted your application. For any questions, referees can contact the Academic Service at Reference.Fellow@eui.eu.

Conditions of Award

  • Duration: 12 months (September to August)
  • Residence: Fellows must live in the Florence area to participate in the Centre’s academic activities.
  • Publication: Research should lead to a publication in an EUI Working Paper, a scientific journal, or with a reputable academic publisher.
  • Grant: Basic grant of €2,500 per month, with adjustments based on additional income. Family allowances are available under specific conditions. For more information, visit here.

Selection Procedure

Candidates are selected by the Academic Staff of the RSCAS, with final approval by the EUI Executive Committee. This decision is final and not subject to appeal. No feedback will be provided to non-selected candidates.

Special Notice: Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education Fellowship

The Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education awards one Jean Monnet Fellowship for the academic year 2025-26, available to Polish candidates who have received their doctorate more than five years ago. Interested candidates should follow the standard application process and will automatically be considered for this Fellowship.
