Internship Overview

An internship at Chatham House offers an invaluable learning experience through a six-month placement in one of our host teams. Whether you are a school leaver, still studying, or a graduate, if you have an interest in global issues, then there is no better experience than an internship placement with us. Internships are available for the following teams:

  • Environment and Society Centre
  • Africa Programme
  • UK in the World
  • Middle East and Africa Programme
  • Russia and Eurasia Programme
  • International Affairs Journal

What to Expect

During your internship, you will:

  • Gain Practical Experience: Benefit from direct involvement in projects across a wide range of topics and gain exposure to event development, administration, and research support.
  • Develop Skills: Opportunities to develop writing and communication skills, including exposure to the research publications and editing process. Learn to draft engaging content for our audiences and build targeted marketing campaigns.
  • Build Connections: Work alongside world-leading experts in international affairs and build valuable connections.
  • Dedicated Support: Your assigned mentor will guide and support you throughout the internship, suggesting training opportunities to aid your development.
  • Networking Opportunities: Attend Chatham House’s workshops, events, and networking opportunities with internationally respected experts.

Person Specification

We are looking for individuals who:

  • Possess good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Are enthusiastic about learning and taking on all areas of a project or task.
  • Are willing to proactively take on new challenges.
  • Are self-motivated and able to manage their time effectively.
  • Are eager to learn and improve skills through continuous personal development.
  • Are team players, comfortable working with people at all levels.
  • Are comfortable building rapport with colleagues.

Application Requirements

To apply for this internship, you must:

  • Reside in the UK for the duration of the internship.
  • Possess a valid right to work in the UK by the start and duration of the internship.
  • Be aged 18 and over.
  • Be available to start on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at Chatham House, for a 6-month duration.

Salary: London Living Wage – currently £13.15 per hour.

Hours: Monday to Thursday (28 hours per week).

Location: Hybrid (Office/Home), 2 days in the office per week.
