The Employability for Youth and Women in South Africa (EYWA) Programme, hosted by the Johannesburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) and the Youth Employment Service (YES) South Africa, is a transformative initiative aimed at tackling youth unemployment, promoting gender equality, and fostering women’s entrepreneurship development. Co-funded by the European Union, the EYWA Programme targets the challenges faced by youth and women entrepreneurs in underprivileged and marginalized communities across South Africa.

Programme Objectives

The EYWA Programme is designed to empower both underprivileged women and early women-led start-ups through comprehensive training and support. By providing access to resources and opportunities, the programme aims to:

  • Address youth unemployment and gender disparities in entrepreneurship.
  • Foster the development of women-led businesses in underprivileged communities.
  • Equip participants with the skills and knowledge needed to enter the labor market successfully.

Qualification Criteria

To be eligible for the EYWA Programme, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Age: Between 18 and 35 years old.
  • Nationality: South African citizenship.
  • Entrepreneurial Status: Underprivileged woman or early women-led start-up (up to 1 year of creation).
  • Availability: Able to participate in the training sessions during the specified dates.
  • Commitment: Willing to attend at least 75% of the lessons to successfully complete the training.
  • Motivation: Demonstrated interest in entering the labor market and pursuing a career or starting a business.

Required Documents

Applicants are required to submit certified copies of the following documents:

  • CIPC Registration (if applicable)
  • SARS Tax Clearance Certificate (if applicable)
  • BEE Certificate (51% black owned) (if applicable)
  • South African ID document (compulsory)
  • Bank letter confirming banking details not older than 3 months (compulsory)

Additionally, applicants must provide:

  • A Company Profile (if applicable)
  • Brochures or specifications of products (if applicable)
  • Credit and criminal reference checks
  • Any previous incubator experiences (if applicable)
  • Basic educational qualifications
  • Contact details of two references
