Volunteer Commitment
Generation Ghana has designed the volunteering experience to be manageable alongside your professional and personal commitments.
Volunteers are expected to:
- Attend a comprehensive onboarding training session
- Conduct 6 virtual mentoring sessions over 3 months
- Schedule sessions flexibly with mentees
- Complete brief feedback forms after sessions
- Complete an end-of-programme survey
Total time commitment: Approximately 12–15 hours over 3 months.
How the Generation Ghana Volunteer Journey Works
Week 1: Application
You begin by submitting the online volunteer application, including information about your background, interests, and availability.
The Generation Ghana team reviews applications and sends successful applicants confirmation and information about the next steps.
Week 2: Screening and Matching
Selected applicants participate in a brief 30-minute interview to discuss their goals, expertise, and preferred mentoring approach.
A background verification process is also conducted to support learner safety.
Volunteers are then matched with 1–3 learners according to their professional experience and mentoring preferences.
Week 3: Onboarding and Training
Volunteers participate in a 2-hour virtual orientation and training session covering Generation Ghana’s mission, learner profiles, and mentoring best practices.
You will also receive a resource kit containing mentoring guides, session templates, and other support materials.
A dedicated coordinator will be available to support you throughout the programme.
Week 4: First Connection
After being matched with a mentee, you will receive relevant background information and arrange your first session.
The initial 60-minute session focuses on building rapport, setting expectations, and identifying the mentee’s goals.
Months 1–3: Active Mentoring
Volunteers conduct five additional virtual sessions, usually on a bi-weekly basis or according to an agreed schedule.
Throughout the programme, volunteers can access coordinator support and mentoring resources while remaining connected to the wider volunteer community.
