About the Internship
The internship at the Permanent Mission of Malta to the United Nations is structured to provide hands‑on involvement in the Mission’s daily diplomatic, administrative, and policy‑related functions. Interns will work closely with diplomats, policy officers, and administrative staff, gaining insight into Malta’s contributions to the UN agenda.
The internship is full‑time, requiring 40 hours per week, and is based entirely in New York. It runs for an initial period of six months, with the possibility of renewal for an additional six months based on performance and mutual agreement. A modest monthly stipend is provided to support the intern during the placement.
Key Responsibilities
Interns will be entrusted with a wide range of tasks that reflect the dynamic and fast‑paced nature of diplomatic work. Responsibilities include:
- Supporting Diplomatic Activities Assisting the Mission’s engagement in UN processes, negotiations, and initiatives across various committees and thematic areas.
- Attending UN Meetings Participating in and reporting on UN meetings, conferences, and committee sessions relevant to Malta’s priorities.
- Drafting and Documentation Preparing statements, briefs, concept notes, meeting summaries, and social media content that reflect Malta’s positions and activities.
- Research and Analysis Conducting in‑depth research on issues related to international relations, UN processes, and thematic areas of interest to the Mission.
- Administrative and Logistical Support Assisting with day‑to‑day administrative tasks, coordination, and logistical arrangements as required.
- Additional Tasks Undertaking any other assignments delegated by the Mission to support its operations and strategic objectives.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for this internship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Demonstrated interest in multilateral diplomacy, international relations, and global governance.
- Academic background in political science, international relations, law, or related fields.
- Strong research, writing, and communication skills.
