The Day of the African Child 2026 Digital Campaign is a powerful regional youth initiative designed to elevate the voices, creativity, and lived experiences of young people across West and Central Africa. Led by Plan International West and Central Africa, this opportunity brings together young digital storytellers, activists, and content creators to highlight critical issues affecting children and communities.
Centered on the theme of the Day of the African Child 2026, this campaign focuses on one of the most urgent development priorities in Africa: universal access to Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH).
Selected participants will join a regional storytelling movement that uses mobile journalism, short-form video content, and digital advocacy to spark awareness and inspire action across communities.
About the Opportunity
This initiative is a regional digital storytelling program seeking 10 young activists and content creators who are passionate about social impact and skilled (or willing to learn) in mobile-based content production.
The goal is to empower youth to document and share real stories about:
- Access to clean water
- Hygiene practices in communities
- Sanitation challenges affecting children and families
- Youth-led solutions to WASH issues
Participants will be trained, mentored, and supported to produce impactful digital content that will be showcased across regional platforms.
What Selected Participants Will Receive
This program offers a comprehensive creative and professional development experience, including:
1. Free Mobile Journalism Training
Participants will receive hands-on training in:
- Mobile storytelling techniques
- Smartphone video production
- Ethical reporting and storytelling
- Editing and publishing content for social media
2. Digital Content Creation Support
Participants will learn how to produce:
- Reels and short-form videos
- POV storytelling content
- Advocacy-driven digital narratives
- Social media campaigns with impact
3. Regional Visibility
Selected creators will gain:
- Exposure across regional digital platforms
- Recognition within youth and development networks
- Opportunities to contribute to a large-scale awareness campaign
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be young activists or digital content creators
- Be active on social media or willing to engage in digital storytelling
- Have interest in advocacy, especially around WASH issues
- Be available for training and campaign participation
