The second Call for Proposals under the Migration and Mobility Dialogue (MMD) Grant Facility has officially been launched on April 7, 2026, offering a strategic funding opportunity for organizations working at the intersection of migration, policy, research, and international cooperation.
Funded by the Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA) under the Africa-EU Migration and Mobility Dialogue Support Programme, this initiative aims to strengthen collaboration between African and European stakeholders while promoting evidence-based policy development and innovative solutions in migration governance.
Overview of the MMD Grant Facility
The MMD Grant Facility is designed to support short-term, high-impact projects that contribute to:
- Strengthening migration and mobility dialogues
- Enhancing policy coherence and cooperation
- Generating research and knowledge outputs
- Addressing emerging migration-related challenges
This second call builds on the success of previous initiatives and continues to promote cross-regional collaboration between Africa and Europe.
Funding Details
The total indicative budget allocated for this call is:
- EUR 600,000
Individual grants will range between:
- EUR 100,000 and EUR 150,000
Importantly, the program allows:
- Up to 100% funding of eligible project costs, where properly justified
This makes the grant particularly accessible to non-profit organizations and research institutions with limited co-financing capacity.
Scope of Eligible Projects
Projects submitted under this call must align with the overarching goals of the MMD framework. Specifically, eligible actions should:
1. Support Migration Dialogues
Contribute to the operationalization of key migration frameworks, including:
- Rabat Process
- Khartoum Process
- C2CMMD
2. Generate Knowledge and Policy Input
Projects should produce:
- Research outputs
- Policy recommendations
- Data-driven insights
3. Align with Strategic Priorities
Actions must align with one or more domains of the:
- Joint Valletta Action Plan
Or address transversal themes such as:
- Climate-induced migration
- Migration and gender
- Migration and health
Geographic Scope and Implementation
Projects must:
- Be implemented in up to three countries
- Include at least one African Union Member State
- Optionally include activities within the EU, particularly when targeting diaspora communities
Project Duration
- Maximum duration: 6 months
- All projects must be completed by: March 1, 2027
Who Can Apply?
The call is open to a wide range of non-profit and non-state actors, including:
- Civil society organizations (CSOs)
- Non-governmental organizations (NGOs)
- Diaspora organizations
- Social enterprises
- Universities and research centers
Lead Applicant Requirements
To be eligible, lead applicants must:
- Be established for at least 2 years
- Be registered in an African Union (AU) or European Union (EU) Member State
Partnership Requirements
- Applications may include one co-applicant
- EU-based lead applicants must include an AU-based co-applicant, unless they are diaspora organizations
- AU-based applicants are not required to include co-applicants
- Affiliated entities may also be included
Important Restriction
Organizations that received funding under the first MMD Call for Proposals (as lead or co-applicant) are not eligible for this round.
