Are you a leader with lived experience of forced displacement and a passion for influencing policy? The United States Refugee Advisory Board (USRAB) is now accepting applications for its third cohort of Advisors. This unique opportunity allows individuals to directly contribute to global and national policy discussions, ensuring that refugee voices are represented where decisions are made. Applications must be submitted by 31 March 2026.

About the Opportunity

The United States Refugee Advisory Board (USRAB) is a self-governing initiative designed to ensure that forcibly displaced individuals have a meaningful and equitable role in policymaking processes. The board is coordinated by Refugee Congress, in partnership with Refugee Council USA (RCUSA) and the Institute for the Study of International Migration (ISIM) at Georgetown University.

USRAB engages with a wide range of stakeholders, including the United States Government, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), civil society organizations, and refugee-led groups. Its mission is to ensure that the perspectives, knowledge, and lived experiences of displaced people are integrated into decision-making processes that affect their lives and communities.

Selected Advisors will serve a three-year term, contributing to strategic discussions, policy engagement, and community consultations. The role is designed to create a transparent and accountable mechanism through which refugee voices can shape policies at both national and international levels.

Why This Opportunity Matters

Refugees and forcibly displaced individuals are often underrepresented in decision-making processes that directly impact their lives. The USRAB initiative addresses this gap by ensuring that those with lived experience are not only included but are central to shaping policies and programs.

By creating a platform for meaningful participation, USRAB promotes equity, inclusion, and accountability in global migration and refugee governance. Advisors play a critical role in bridging the gap between policymakers and affected communities, ensuring that policies are informed by real experiences and practical insights.

This opportunity is particularly impactful because it goes beyond consultation—it enables individuals to actively influence policy outcomes, contribute to strategic discussions, and engage in high-level dialogues with global stakeholders.
