Women’s Leadership in Peace and Security 2026: Applications Open

The Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP) has opened applications for its 2026 edition of Women’s Leadership in Peace and Security, a three-day in-person programme designed to strengthen women’s leadership in one of the world’s most critical fields. Taking place from 30 March to 1 April 2026 in Geneva, Switzerland, the programme offers participants an immersive learning experience rooted in self-awareness, confidence-building, strategic influence and cross-sector collaboration. With an application deadline of 15 March 2026, aspiring participants are encouraged to apply early.

Women’s Leadership in Peace and Security: designed for impact

This programme is tailored for mid-career women living in Geneva and working within the peace and security sector—whether in international organisations, policy institutions, NGOs, or other related environments. Its central aim is to help women step into their full leadership potential, particularly during moments of uncertainty that demand clarity, courage and strategic decision-making.

Across its three days, the course blends practical tools, reflective exercises and peer discussions led by an expert team of facilitators. The journey encourages women to explore the mindsets and behaviours that define high-achieving leaders, while creating a safe space for honest self-discovery and professional growth. Participants leave with not only new skills, but also a deeper understanding of their own leadership identity.

Learning objectives

The programme focuses on five core learning objectives that shape both personal and professional transformation:

1. Understanding high-achieving leadership behaviours
Participants learn how successful women leaders think, work and influence. This includes examining common barriers, internal narratives and habits that can hinder progress, as well as strategies to strengthen resilience and strategic thinking.

2. Deepening self-awareness
Leadership begins with knowing oneself. Through guided reflection and expert facilitation, participants explore their values, strengths, blind spots and leadership style. This self-awareness becomes the foundation for more intentional and impactful leadership.

3. Gaining practical tools for confident leadership
The course equips participants with actionable tools and practices to communicate effectively, influence with purpose and lead teams in complex, high-pressure environments. These tools help women navigate challenges with confidence, clarity and professionalism.

4. Enhancing individual and team effectiveness
Participants discover methods to elevate not only their own performance, but also the effectiveness of their teams. This includes learning how to inspire trust, manage conflict constructively, and foster inclusive, high-performing work cultures.

5. Building strong professional networks
Because leadership is also about community, the programme brings together a diverse cohort of women committed to peace and security. These connections often evolve into long-term professional partnerships, mentorships and support networks that continue well beyond the programme.

Tuition, waivers and eligibility

The programme fee is 1200 CHF for the full three-day course. However, GCSP encourages applications from women based in Geneva who come from conflict-affected or fragile regions and are unable to pay the tuition. These candidates may apply for a tuition waiver, ensuring that financial constraints do not prevent deserving women from participating.

GCSP reserves the right to accept or decline applications at its discretion, reflecting the selective and purpose-driven nature of the programme.

Why this programme matters

Women’s leadership in peace and security is essential for sustainable solutions, inclusive institutions and conflict prevention efforts worldwide. Despite their crucial roles, women remain underrepresented in decision-making spaces within diplomacy, conflict resolution and global security. Initiatives like the GCSP programme help fill this gap—by equipping women with the skills, confidence and networks they need to lead with impact.

Participants not only gain new competencies, but also join a global community of leaders who share a commitment to advancing peace, stability and gender-inclusive security.
