The AIG Public Leaders Programme (AIG PLP) is a flagship leadership capacity-building initiative designed to equip public sector leaders across Africa with the skills, tools, and mindset needed to lead transformative change in government institutions.

Delivered in partnership with the University of Oxford’s Blavatnik School of Government, the programme offers a world-class executive education experience that combines theory, practice, and peer learning.

About the Programme

The AIG Public Leaders Programme provides an intensive and immersive learning experience tailored for senior public officials. It is designed to help leaders:

  • Strengthen leadership and policy delivery skills

  • Navigate complex governance systems

  • Build effective and accountable institutions

  • Deliver measurable impact in their organisations and countries

Through a blend of faculty-led discussions, real-world simulations, case studies, and collaborative group work, participants gain both conceptual frameworks and practical tools needed to lead effectively in today’s dynamic public sector environment.

Core Programme Focus

Participants will develop expertise in the following key areas:

  • Negotiating in the public interest

  • Harnessing digital technology for governance

  • Strengthening public organisations

  • Promoting integrity in public life

  • Communication and narrative power in leadership

Capstone Project & Learning Approach

To ensure practical application of learning, participants complete a capstone project where they design and implement solutions to real policy or institutional challenges within their organisations.

The programme includes:

  • Blended instruction and interactive sessions

  • Peer learning and collaboration

  • Guided reflection and leadership coaching

  • Practical workplace-based project implementation

This approach ensures that participants return to their roles with actionable solutions and measurable impact strategies.

Programme Timeline (2026 Cohort)

Application Milestones:

  • 20 February 2026 – Applications Open

  • 12 April 2026 – Applications Close

  • May 2026 – Stage 1: Computer-Based Tests

  • Late May 2026 – Stage 2: Essays Submission

  • Mid-June 2026 – Stage 3: Video Interview

  • August 2026 – Final Selection

  • October 2026 – Programme Commencement

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be a citizen of any African country

  • Currently work in the public sector in Africa

  • Have a minimum of 7 years’ public sector experience

  • Hold a position at Grade Level 13 or above

  • Be aged 35–54 years
