We are now seeking a dynamic Director of Development to lead and elevate Halcyon’s fundraising efforts and help drive our mission forward.
Position Overview
Title: Director of Development
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
Location: Washington, DC (Hybrid preferred; remote candidates within the U.S. considered)
Salary Range: $125,000–$145,000
The Director of Development will oversee Halcyon’s comprehensive fundraising strategy, including corporate partnerships, foundation grants, individual giving, major gifts, planned giving, and special events. This role requires a visionary strategist and relationship-builder capable of inspiring stakeholders and growing sustainable revenue streams to support Halcyon’s expanding impact.

Core Responsibilities
1. Fundraising Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and implement a multi-year fundraising strategy to achieve $6M+ annual revenue
- Lead all donor engagement, cultivation, stewardship, and recognition efforts
- Secure new corporate, foundation, government, and individual supporters
- Provide strategic fundraising guidance to the CEO and Board
- Empower Board members to leverage their networks for philanthropic engagement
2. Operational Leadership & Team Management
- Serve as a member of Halcyon’s senior leadership team
- Set and track fundraising targets, analyzing trends to inform strategy
- Manage and mentor a high-performing development team
- Oversee CRM systems, donor records, and compliance with reporting requirements
- Collaborate with finance and program teams on proposal development and donor reporting
3. Donor & Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as a key ambassador for Halcyon with donors, partners, and networks
- Cultivate and expand relationships with high-level donors and mission-aligned organizations
- Represent Halcyon at events and external engagements
- Ensure donor messaging aligns with organizational values and priorities
4. Sector Knowledge & Professional Growth
- Stay current on fundraising trends and philanthropic best practices
- Participate in relevant networks, conferences, and professional organizations
- Model Halcyon’s values: nimbleness, humility, risk-taking, nurturing, and optimism
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 8 years of nonprofit fundraising experience
- At least 4 years of supervisory experience
- Strong communication, organizational, and project management skills
- Proven ability to lead inclusive, diverse teams
- Experience in social entrepreneurship, impact investing, or venture support (preferred)
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25%
- Comfortable working evenings or weekends when necessary
