Are you passionate about global food security, climate action, and international development? The Global Crop Diversity Trust (Crop Trust) is inviting applications for the position of Global Engagement Intern to support the Global Flagship Initiative for Food Security—a high-level coalition advancing SDG 2: Zero Hunger through strategic global partnerships and rapid, results-driven action.

This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in international cooperation, multilateral engagement, and resource mobilization while working at the intersection of food systems, biodiversity, climate resilience, and sustainable development.

About the Global Flagship Initiative for Food Security

The Global Crop Diversity Trust hosts the Global Flagship Initiative for Food Security, a global coalition launched at UNCCD COP16 in Riyadh (2024). Since its launch, the initiative has grown into a dynamic alliance of 90 development partners collaborating to strengthen global food security.

The Flagship advances Sustainable Development Goal 2 (Zero Hunger) through three strategic pillars:

  • Collaborate Broadly – Strengthening partnerships across governments, UN agencies, civil society, and the private sector

  • Mobilize the Private Sector – Leveraging investment and innovation for food systems transformation

  • Deliver Impact with Agility – Accelerating scalable, climate-smart, and results-driven solutions

Through strategic alignment and coordinated action, the initiative supports governments and partners in implementing climate-smart agriculture, land restoration, biodiversity conservation, and resilient agrifood systems.

About the Role: Global Engagement Intern

The Global Engagement Intern will provide direct support to the Flagship Secretariat under the guidance of the Secretary of the Global Flagship Initiative for Food Security.

This role offers exposure to:

  • International policy processes

  • UN system coordination

  • Donor engagement and development finance

  • Multi stakeholder partnerships

  • Strategic communications and outreach

Key Responsibilities

1. Partnerships & Outreach

  • Identify and engage potential partners including governments, UN agencies, development institutions, private sector actors, and civil society organisations

  • Maintain partner engagement tracking tools and contact databases

  • Prepare meeting briefs, summaries, and follow-up notes

  • Coordinate with related initiatives on food security, climate change, land restoration, and biodiversity

2. Multilateral & Event Support

  • Support participation in global forums such as:

    • UN Food Systems Summit follow-up

    • Rio Conventions

    • UN General Assembly

  • Prepare background research and briefing materials

  • Provide logistical support for meetings, side events, and bilateral engagements

  • Coordinate with UN counterparts and partner institutions

3. Resource Mobilisation Support

  • Assist in drafting funding proposals and concept notes

  • Map potential donors and funding opportunities

  • Support follow-up with development banks, philanthropic foundations, and donors

4. Research & Knowledge Support

  • Conduct desk research on:

    • Food security and agrifood systems

    • Climate policy

    • Development finance

  • Prepare briefing notes and presentations

  • Conduct partner background research and due diligence

5. Secretariat & Team Coordination

  • Support internal planning and task tracking

  • Contribute to progress reports and updates

  • Coordinate messaging with Crop Trust External Affairs and Programme teams

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet one of the following at the time of application:

  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree program (Master’s or higher)

  • Be in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree program

  • Have recently graduated (must start internship within one year of graduation)

  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program

Internship Terms & Conditions

  • Duration: 5 months

  • Stipend: EUR 1,200 per month

  • Location: Bonn, Germany

  • Interns must have the legal right to live and work in Germany

  • Health insurance coverage acceptable to German authorities is required (guidance can be provided by the Crop Trust)
