British Council Scholarships for Women in STEM (2026–27 Academic Year) Fully Funded Master’s Degrees in the UK for Women in STEM

The gender gap in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) remains a persistent global challenge. Women continue to be underrepresented in STEM fields, published less frequently, and face lower pay and fewer leadership opportunities—despite evidence showing they are, on average, eight per cent more productive than their male counterparts.

To address this imbalance, the British Council Women in STEM Scholarship Programme offers fully funded opportunities for women to pursue one-year master’s degrees at top UK universities. Now in its sixth year, the programme works to increase opportunities for women in STEM, strengthen female leadership in innovation, and build a more inclusive and representative STEM ecosystem worldwide.

About the Scholarship Programme

The initiative aims to support women from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds by removing financial barriers to advanced STEM education. Through this programme, scholars gain access to world-leading institutions and join a growing network of STEM professionals committed to driving positive change in their home countries.

What the Scholarship Covers

Each scholarship provides comprehensive support, including:

  • Full tuition fees
  • Living stipend
  • Travel and visa costs
  • Health coverage fees
  • English language support (if needed)
Each award is valued at a minimum of £40,000.
