Theirworld Small Grants Programme

Theirworld Small Grants Programme

The Theirworld Small Grants Programme is designed to help registered charities and non-profits create meaningful change for children and young people, particularly those who are disadvantaged or overlooked. Since 2004, Theirworld has provided nearly £1 million in small grants to support initiatives that improve access to education, skills development, health, and wellbeing, both in the UK and internationally.

The programme is intended to empower local organisations with a passion for supporting youth but limited access to resources. By offering smaller, more flexible grants, the programme allows organisations to pilot innovative projects, scale impactful initiatives, or test new approaches without the lengthy process of larger funding applications.

Supporting Projects that Improve Education, Skills, and Wellbeing for Children and Young People

Deadline: 16 February 2026, 17:00 GMT
Grant Amount: £1,000 – £10,000

Programme Focus

Theirworld supports projects that:

  • Improve access to quality education for children and young people.

  • Promote health, wellbeing, and emotional development, particularly in vulnerable groups.

  • Develop skills for the future, including literacy, numeracy, vocational training, and life skills.

  • Support girls, young women, and other marginalised groups to overcome barriers to learning.

  • Enhance community-based initiatives, including mentorship, peer-support, or early intervention programmes.

Small grants are designed to make a practical and immediate impact, whether by providing essential learning resources, hiring specialist staff, or funding extracurricular programmes.

Impact of Theirworld Small Grants

Over the years, the programme has supported dozens of organisations worldwide, improving the lives of thousands of children. Examples of past grantees include:

  • Sibling Support (UK): Produces booklets, memory boxes, and animated films for children grieving the loss of a sibling.

  • Chance UK (UK): RISE programme for girls aged 8–12, focusing on emotional wellbeing and mental health support through mentoring.

  • Ashanti Development (Ghana): Constructed housing for teachers in a rural farming community, enabling improved retention and support for 200 students.

  • The Butterfly Tree (Zambia): Supported five young women from rural communities to attend college, live near campus, and complete work placements.

  • Action for Education (Greece): Delivered workshops and learning activities for young refugee women, promoting skills, confidence, and educational engagement.

  • Misty Meadows School (South Africa): Funded a teacher for literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional development for first and second graders where English is not the first language.
