Cummins Cederberg, a leading coastal and marine engineering and environmental consulting firm, is now accepting applications for Paid Summer Environmental Interns and Seasonal Associate Scientists for the 2026 summer season. These roles offer immersive, hands-on experience in coastal and marine environmental work across multiple locations in Florida.

About the Roles

Summer Environmental Intern

A paid learning-focused role designed for early-career marine science students seeking exposure to:

  • Benthic habitat assessments
  • Coral and seagrass monitoring
  • Environmental permitting and compliance
  • Fieldwork shadowing and office-based research
  • Data management and environmental reporting

Interns work under close supervision and receive mentorship in applied coastal and marine science.


Seasonal Associate Scientist

A field-focused seasonal position ideal for candidates with in-water survey experience. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting benthic and coral habitat surveys
  • Participating in coral relocation and environmental compliance monitoring
  • Fieldwork in dynamic outdoor marine environments
  • Supporting technical reporting and resource documentation

This position requires stronger field experience and biological identification skills.


Locations

Positions are available across Florida:

  • Miami
  • Fort Lauderdale
  • Jupiter
  • St. Petersburg

Duration: May 1 – October 31 (flexible)
Schedule: Full-time and part-time options


Key Responsibilities (Both Roles)

  • Conduct marine resource surveys (benthic mapping, coral relocation)
  • Assist with field equipment inventory and maintenance
  • Support environmental permitting research
  • Draft monitoring and technical reports
  • Perform data entry and project coordination tasks

Qualifications

Required for All Candidates

  • B.S. in Marine Biology or related field
  • Experience with in-water surveys (snorkel)
  • Knowledge of Florida benthic ecology (corals, seagrass)
  • Strong writing, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in challenging field conditions
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs & reliable transportation
  • CPR/First Aid & Oxygen Administration certification (or ability to obtain)
  • Team-oriented mindset

Additional Requirements for Seasonal Associate Scientists

  • Enrollment in or completion of a graduate program in marine biology or related field
  • SCUBA experience; scientific diving preferred
  • Dive log documenting dives from 2024–present
  • Proficiency in identifying Florida’s protected resources
  • Ability to pass a dive physical
