Nominate a Changemaker: The Yidan Prize for Education
The Yidan Prize is a global award that recognises individuals and teams who are transforming education through innovative research and impactful development work. Through an open and rigorous nomination process, the Prize identifies changemakers whose contributions are improving education quality and expanding access to learning worldwide.
This article provides a comprehensive guide to the Yidan Prize nomination process, including timelines, roles, eligibility, and step-by-step instructions for nominators.
Our Yidan Prize Cycle
Each Yidan Prize cycle follows a clear annual timeline:
- October – March: Nominations open
- April – September: Judging process
- Late September: Public announcement of laureates
- December: Yidan Prize Awards Ceremony
Nominations must be submitted within the official nomination window to be considered for that cycle.
Roles in the Nomination Process
A complete nomination involves three key roles:
Nominator
The nominator is the individual who submits the nomination. As a nominator, you are expected to be a credible witness to the nominee’s impact, with a strong and informed understanding of their work and achievements.
Nominee
You may nominate:
- An individual
- A team of up to three members
- Yourself or your own team
Supporters
Supporters provide external validation of the nominee’s work. Each nomination requires:
- Two supporters if you are nominating someone else
- Three supporters if you are nominating yourself or your own team
You may include no more than one supporter from the nominee’s own organisation.
Who Can Make a Nomination?
The Yidan Prize nomination process is open to everyone — no invitation is required. While many nominators come from government bodies, non-governmental organisations, professional associations, or the education sector, this is not a requirement.
What matters most is that you:
- Have a thorough understanding of the nominee’s work
- Can clearly articulate their impact on education
- Are able to provide credible, evidence-based insights
We welcome nominations from all backgrounds, provided the nominator can serve as a reliable and informed witness to the nominee’s contribution.
