Girls Who Code Opens Applications for the 2026 Pathways Program: A Free Online Coding Opportunity for High School Students
Girls Who Code has officially opened applications for its highly anticipated 2026 Pathways Program, a free and flexible online learning opportunity designed to introduce high school girls and non-binary students to the world of coding and technology. Scheduled to run from Monday, June 29 through Friday, August 14, 2026, the seven-week program empowers students to learn at their own pace while exploring in-demand tech skills and career pathways.
As technology continues to shape the future of work, programs like Pathways play a crucial role in closing the gender gap in STEM fields. Girls Who Code’s Pathways program is thoughtfully structured to support beginners as well as students with prior coding experience, making it an inclusive entry point into tech education.
What the Pathways Program Offers
The 2026 Pathways Program allows participants to explore coursework across five dynamic and future-focused tracks:
- Data Science + AI – Learn how data is collected, analyzed, and used to train intelligent systems.
- Game Design – Discover the fundamentals of building interactive games while learning core programming concepts.
- Web Development – Gain hands-on experience creating websites using front-end development tools.
- Cybersecurity – Understand how digital systems are protected and learn the basics of online safety and security.
- AI + Society – Examine the ethical, social, and cultural impacts of artificial intelligence in today’s world.
Participants are free to explore multiple tracks during the program, allowing them to discover their interests and strengths without pressure. All coursework is delivered online, making it accessible to students regardless of location.
More Than Just Coding
Beyond technical skills, Pathways offers participants valuable exposure to the tech industry through virtual Partner Events hosted by leading technology organizations. These sessions provide real-world insights into tech careers, workplace culture, and emerging opportunities, helping students connect classroom learning to real-life applications.
Students also gain access to Girls Who Code’s private Discord community, where they can connect with peers from across the country, collaborate on ideas, and build lasting friendships with like-minded learners. In addition, optional Student Hours are available throughout the program, offering live support, mentorship, and collaborative learning opportunities.
New Content for Returning Students
Students who participated in the Pathways Program in 2025 are encouraged to apply again. The 2026 program features new courses, fresh virtual events, and expanded learning opportunities, as well as the chance to complete coursework that may have been missed in previous sessions. Girls Who Code ensures that returning participants continue to grow and gain new skills each year.
Eligibility and Who Can Apply
The Pathways Program is open to high school girls and non-binary students of all experience levels. This includes rising 9th graders, graduating seniors, and returning Pathways participants. No prior coding knowledge is required, making the program especially welcoming to beginners who are curious about technology but unsure where to start.
Applicants are encouraged to review the official eligibility criteria before applying to ensure they meet all requirements.
Application Process and Guidelines
- The application process is simple and takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.
- It consists of two pages and should ideally be completed in one sitting. Applicants are strongly advised not to create multiple applications.
- Students who have already started an application and need assistance returning to it can email pathways@girlswhocode.com for support.
- For applicants under the age of 18, it is recommended to complete the application alongside a parent or legal guardian.
- Before submission, both the student and guardian must review and discuss the program’s Terms and Conditions, confirming consent upon submission.
Applications must be completed by the prospective student, not by parents, teachers, or other individuals. Once submitted, responses cannot be edited, though students may contact the Pathways team for assistance with requested changes.
For the best experience, applicants are encouraged to use a computer or laptop rather than a mobile device. In case of technical issues, switching browsers or devices may help.
Important Application Deadlines
