The Africa Scholarship Programme (ASP) provides talented and highly motivated students from Africa with the opportunity to pursue a fully funded Master’s degree at Wageningen University & Research (WUR). The programme aims to support academic excellence while strengthening long-term capacity building and sustainable development across the African continent.

The scholarship targets outstanding students with strong academic records who demonstrate the potential to contribute meaningfully to development in Africa after completing their studies.

What the Africa Scholarship Programme Covers

The Africa Scholarship Programme is a fully funded award covering the entire duration of the MSc programme (24 months). The scholarship includes:

  • Travel costs to and from the Netherlands

  • A living allowance for the full study period

  • Full tuition fee coverage for 24 months

  • Visa costs and health insurance expenses

This comprehensive support ensures that selected students can focus fully on their academic and professional development during their studies.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be considered for the Africa Scholarship Programme:

  • Citizenship of an African country

  • You have submitted a complete application for one of the master’s programmes of Wageningen University & Research before the given deadline. Please see: How can I apply for the master’s programme?
  • Submission of a complete application to an eligible MSc programme at Wageningen University before the stated deadline

  • Unconditional admission to the MSc programme

  • A First Class Honours degree or equivalent

  • A minimum GPA of 80% or higher in a bachelor’s degree

  • Preference is given to applicants who have not yet obtained a master’s degree

Only applicants who satisfy all the above requirements may be invited to participate in the Africa Scholarship Programme selection procedure.

MSc Application Deadline

All applications for Wageningen University MSc programmes must be submitted by:

  • 1 February 2026

Applications submitted by this deadline will be assessed by the university’s selection committee for possible consideration under the Africa Scholarship Programme.

Selection Process and Timeline

The selection process for the Africa Scholarship Programme is coordinated by Wageningen University and follows a structured timeline:

  • 1 April 2026
    Eligible candidates selected by the committee will be informed by email and invited to proceed to the next stage of the selection process.

  • From the invited candidates, a number of students will be selected by lot. Candidates will either:

    • Receive a scholarship offer, or

    • Be placed on a waiting list.

  • 7 May 2026
    Final outcomes of the selection process will be communicated to all invited candidates.

Applicants who do not receive an email notification on 1 April 2026 should consider their application unsuccessful for the ASP September 2026 intake.
