Tsinghua University (THU), one of China’s most prestigious institutions, has opened applications for its 2025 Master’s and Doctoral programs for international students. With 49 schools and departments offering degrees, THU provides a wide range of academic opportunities across disciplines. More than 30 Master’s and PhD programs are fully taught in English, while others are offered in Chinese or bilingually.

Master’s programs typically take 2–3 years, while Doctoral programs require 3–4 years. Students holding a Bachelor’s degree may also directly apply for certain Doctoral programs (4–5 years).


Required Qualifications for Tsinghua University

To apply for THU’s 2025 graduate programs, applicants must:

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted online through the Tsinghua application portal. Applicants should fill in all required information, upload documents, and pay the non-refundable application fee.

Important: Schwarzman Scholars and MBA applicants must apply through their respective separate portals.


Application Schedule (2025)

The general application period runs from September to February of the following year. Deadlines vary depending on the school or program, so applicants must check the “Remarks of Application” in the Program Catalog.

THU’s winter break runs from Jan 16, 2025 to Feb 12, 2025. The application system remains open, but document verification may be delayed.


Required Application Documents

Applicants must upload:

  1. Personal Statement
    (PhD applicants must also upload a brief research plan.)

  2. Degree Certificates + Degree Authentication

    • Overseas degrees must be authenticated by CSCSE.

    • Degrees from Chinese universities must be authenticated by CSSD.

  3. Academic Transcripts
    If GPA is not shown, provide an official GPA certification.

  4. Language Proficiency Scores
    Submit HSK or English test scores depending on the program.

  5. Two Academic Recommendation Letters

  6. Passport Bio Page
    Additional documents required for applicants of Chinese origin who changed nationality.

  7. Additional documents, if required by specific programs.

Accommodation

On-campus dormitory rooms are limited and assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Students who cannot secure on-campus housing must arrange off-campus accommodation independently.


Visa & Registration

Admitted students must apply for an X1 student visa using:

Students must arrive in China with an X1 visa and apply for a Residence Permit within 30 days of arrival.

Registration usually takes place in late August or early September. All students must undergo qualification verification upon arrival.
