Featured Program: Canada–China Scholars’ Exchange Program (CCSEP)
Call for Applications: Open for the 2026–2027 academic year
The Canada–China Scholars’ Exchange Program (CCSEP) is Canada’s longest-running bilateral scholarship, established in 1973. Delivered by Global Affairs Canada in partnership with China’s Ministry of Education, CCSEP supports academic study, research, and language training in China to foster long-term educational and cultural exchange.
Who Can Apply
- Canadian citizens with a strong academic or professional record
- Demonstrated interest in China Studies (e.g. Chinese language, politics, international relations, economics, law, environmental studies, public health, architecture, education, communications, and related fields)
- Availability to study or research in China during 2026–2027
- Language proficiency in the language of instruction (English, French, or Chinese)
- If Chinese: HSK 3 (undergraduate) / HSK 4 (graduate)
Eligible Applicant Categories & Duration
- Students (non-degree): 4–12 months
- Graduate degree-seeking students: 12–24 months
- Faculty / researchers: 1–12 months
- Mid-career professionals: 1–12 months
Scholarship Benefits
Chinese Government Scholarship covers:
- Tuition at participating Chinese institutions
- Monthly stipend (approx.):
- ¥2,500 (undergraduate)
- ¥3,000 (Master’s / general scholars)
- ¥3,500 (Doctoral / senior scholars)
- On-campus accommodation or housing subsidy
- Comprehensive medical insurance
Global Affairs Canada covers:
- Round-trip travel to and from China (most cost-effective route)
Note: Government of Canada employees are eligible for the scholarship but not for the travel benefit.

Two-step application required:
- Apply via My EduCanada portal
- Apply via the China Scholarship Council (CSC) portal
Key Deadlines
- My EduCanada: 12 January 2026
- CSC portal: 1 March 2026
Selection Criteria
Applications are assessed based on:
- Academic or professional merit
- Strength and feasibility of the proposed study/research plan
- Clear focus on China
- Commitment to sharing outcomes with the Canadian public
Priority is given to candidates who have not previously received a CCSEP scholarship.
Timeline & Tenure
- Pre-selection notification: By 23 February 2026
- Final selection: Summer 2026
- Program period:
- Short-term exchanges: September 2026 – August 2027
- Graduate degrees: Up to August 2028
Important Conditions
Recipients must:
- Enroll full-time at the approved Chinese host institution
- Return to Canada after completion
- Not hold concurrent scholarships with similar benefits
- Obtain an appropriate Chinese visa (X1/X2)
- Not undertake paid employment in China
Scholarships are non-renewable, non-deferrable, subject to funding availability, and not taxable. No appeal or feedback is provided for unsuccessful applications.
