About the PhD Fellowship

The PhD positions focus on anti-gender movements and their influence on the academic field of gender and diversity studies—a subject increasingly under pressure due to changing political landscapes, rising right-wing movements, and public discourse shifts amplified through social media.

The fellowship is linked to the specialization Governance and Democracy in Transition within the PhD programme.

  • 4 years with 25% teaching/research duties, depending on faculty needs and candidate profile.

Workplace

Research Theme: Anti-Gender Movements

The fellowship aims to explore questions such as:

  • What drives anti-gender movements in Europe, and how do states and universities respond?

  • How do religious, political, and populist narratives shape anti-gender discourses?

  • How do such movements spread through social media and transnational networks?

  • How are university programs in gender/diversity studies being challenged, defunded, or delegitimized?

  • Are Nordic universities more resilient due to welfare-state traditions, or equally vulnerable to global anti-gender influences?

Interdisciplinary and critical perspectives are encouraged.
