IOM South Sudan: Remote Internship Opportunities for Early-Career Professionals
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is inviting applications for three home-based internships within its Transition and Recovery Unit (TRU) in South Sudan. These opportunities are ideal for young professionals seeking hands-on experience in international development, peacebuilding, and programme support in crisis and post-crisis settings. All positions are remote and open to candidates aged 20 to 36 with less than two years of relevant professional experience.

IOM is a leading intergovernmental organization dedicated to promoting safe, orderly, and humane migration. Its work spans humanitarian response, peacebuilding, community stabilization, and sustainable recovery. The Transition and Recovery Unit in South Sudan supports communities affected by conflict and displacement through programming focused on resilience, social cohesion, housing, land and property rights, and durable solutions.
Selected interns will gain practical experience working with multidisciplinary teams, contribute to research and programme design, and support coordination and knowledge management across IOM’s recovery initiatives. All positions are full-time for an initial duration of three months, with the possibility of extension to six months.
Available Internship Positions
1. HLP (Housing, Land and Property) Intern – Remote
The HLP Intern will support research, analysis, and documentation related to land tenure, property rights, gender, and conflict dynamics in South Sudan. The role includes contributing to legal awareness initiatives, drafting reports and case studies, supporting the HLP Community of Practice, and assisting in developing training materials and tools.
2. Peacebuilding Intern – Remote
The Peacebuilding Intern will contribute to conflict analysis, stakeholder mapping, and trend tracking. The position involves supporting preparation for peace dialogues and coordination meetings, assisting with workshops and trainings, drafting content for visibility materials, and gathering media content from field teams to support donor engagement.
3. Programme Intern – Remote
The Programme Intern will assist with project tracking, documentation management, background research, preparation of meeting materials, donor reporting, and the development of visibility and communication products. The intern will also support administrative and coordination tasks across programme activities.
Key Responsibilities (across roles)
• Conduct research, data compilation, and analysis relevant to transition and recovery programming
• Draft meeting minutes, briefs, updates, training materials, and knowledge products
• Support coordination of workshops, webinars, and inter-agency meetings
• Assist in preparing visibility materials, factsheets, infographics, and communication content
• Maintain project documentation, calendars, and organized shared drives
• Provide administrative and logistical support as required
• Contribute to programme design, adaptive planning, and monitoring processes
Requirements
• Enrolled in the final year of a bachelor’s degree or recently graduated (within the past 12 months)
• Academic background in law, peace and security, project management, social sciences, international development, international relations, or a related field
• No more than two years of relevant professional experience
• Strong research and analytical skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
• Self-motivated, reliable, and able to work independently in a remote environment
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

• Full-time internship
• Duration: 3 months (extendable up to 6 months)
• Location: Remote, home-based
• Monthly stipend provided, depending on location and experience
• Interns must have personal medical insurance for non-occupational incidents
