Bridport Prize 2026 – Bursaries for Underrepresented Writers
The 2026 Bridport Prize competitions for flash fiction, poetry, short stories, and novels are now officially open for submissions. One of the world’s most respected writing competitions, the Bridport Prize welcomes entries from writers aged 16 and above, writing in English, from anywhere in the world.
Winners in each category will receive prizes of up to £5,000, along with international recognition.
Alongside the main prizes, writers may also be eligible for two special awards:
Never Too Late Award (60+)
A special £500 award given to the highest placed writer aged 60 or above across Poetry, Short Story, Novel, and Flash Fiction categories.
The winning entry will be published in the annual Bridport anthology—an important stepping stone for writers seeking visibility with agents and publishers.
This award is championed by honorary patron Kit de Waal and London literary agency AM Heath.
Young Writer Award (16–25)
A £500 award for the highest placed writer aged 16 to 25 in Poetry, Short Story, Flash Fiction, or Novel.
The winning entry also appears in the official anthology, giving emerging writers a crucial early career boost.
Bridport Prize Bursaries for Underrepresented Writers
The Bridport Prize is offering bursaries for underrepresented writers, providing free entry to any category in the 2026 competition. These bursaries are funded by participating writers who wish to support new voices and broaden access to literary opportunity.
Applications are confidential and open to all eligible writers who face financial or systemic barriers to entering.
