UNESCO Chair Fellowship 2026 – Call for Applications
The annual digital UNESCO Chair Fellowship is inviting applicants. UNESCO Chair in Interdisciplinary Anticipation and Global-Local Transformation, hosted by the Center for Advanced Studies of Eurac Research in Bolzano, Italy, is inviting applications for its annual fellowship. This fellowship offers one selected candidate the opportunity to collaborate with an interdisciplinary research team working at the intersection of future studies, social sciences, and UNESCO global priorities.
Deadline: 19 December 2025
The Fellowship focuses on advancing knowledge around future social, political, and economic challenges. It explores how UNESCO Futures Literacy and other anticipatory methodologies can be used to shape more resilient, inclusive and sustainable societies. The 2026 Fellowship is compatible with university studies or non-related employment and is conducted online, with the possibility of one or two short visits to Bolzano. The fellowship is remunerated.
Eligibility is limited to private individuals who are citizens of EU member states and not registered for VAT. The UNESCO Chair strongly encourages applications from women and individuals from underrepresented groups in academic research.
Fellowship Activities
The selected UNESCO Chair Fellow will engage in:

Participation in selected meetings linked to UNESCO Chair and Center for Advanced Studies activities

Active involvement in Chair-led initiatives based on the Fellow’s expertise

Delivery of one public lecture or internal seminar

Preparation of a short research paper on an agreed topic

Participation in communication activities and events
-
Opportunities to explore publications through joint outputs, the Imagining Futures blog, or New Global Studies
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must demonstrate:

A completed university degree, ideally with an interdisciplinary dimension

Strong written and spoken English proficiency

Ability to work independently and manage tasks effectively

Interest in futures-oriented research
-
Interest in UNESCO and its global priorities

Motivation letter outlining their academic background, interest in foresight research, and alignment with UNESCO Chair themes

Provisional title and 200-word abstract for a proposed public lecture or internal seminar
Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted by the end of January.
