Seattle Children’s Summer Scholars Program
Seattle Children’s Research Institute invites undergraduate students to apply for the Summer Scholars Program — a prestigious, fully funded summer research internship designed to inspire the next generation of scientists, clinicians and public health leaders.
This nine-week program immerses students in hands-on basic, clinical, community-based or translational research, guided by world-class mentors committed to training future innovators. Whether you’re exploring your first formal research experience or preparing for a career in medicine or biomedical science, this program offers a powerful stepping stone.
Who Should Apply
Ideal candidates are passionate about advancing human health through research. Students from biomedical sciences, behavioral health, public health, and related STEM fields are encouraged to apply.

Eligibility Requirements:

Must be 18 or older by the program start date and possess a Social Security Number or ITIN

Must be currently enrolled and in good academic standing at an undergraduate, community, or technical college
-
Applicants graduating before or during the program are not eligible
-
Graduate and medical students may not apply
-
Strong communication, organizational skills, and attention to detail required

Must uphold Seattle Children’s confidentiality and conduct standards
Priority will be given to applicants seeking their first formal research internship.
What the Program Offers
Mentored Research Experience
Scholars join active research teams, gaining direct exposure to the scientific process. Each participant is matched with a mentor aligned with their research interests. Scholars work approximately 35 hours per week on meaningful research activities throughout the nine-week program.
Professional Development & Research Curriculum
Through biweekly seminars and community-building activities, scholars will:

Learn principles of responsible and ethical research (RCR)

Build professional skills and explore research career pathways

Connect with peers, scientists, and healthcare professionals
Publish & Present Your Work
The experience culminates in:

Publication of the scholar’s research abstract

Presentation at a program-wide poster symposium
Compensation
Each Summer Scholar receives:
-
$7,100 stipend
-
$400 food stipend
-
ORCA transit card for Seattle-area transportation
