Mauritius Africa Scholarship Scheme 2026: Call for Applications

The Government of the Republic of Mauritius is inviting applications for the Mauritius Africa Scholarship Scheme 2026. This program offers deserving students from African Union member states and African Commonwealth countries the opportunity to pursue higher education in Mauritius.

The scholarships are designed to support talented individuals in accessing quality education while fostering stronger ties between Mauritius and the African continent.

 Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Undergraduate Programmes
    • Must be at least 18 years old.
    • Should not have reached their 26th birthday by 01 January 2027.
  • Postgraduate Programmes (MPhil, MPhil/PhD, PhD)
    • Should not have reached their 40th birthday by 01 January 2027.
  • Programme Application Requirement
    • Candidates must have already applied for a full-time, on-campus programme (Diploma, Degree, MPhil, or PhD) at a public Higher Education Institution in Mauritius.
    • Eligible institutions are listed in Section 8 of the Guidelines for Applicants.

  Duration of Scholarship

The scholarship covers the minimum course duration or the maximum duration indicated below :

  • Undergraduate Diploma : 3 years
  • Undergraduate Degree : 4 years
  • MPhil :2 years + 6 months for thesis defence
  • MPhil/PhD :3 years + 6 months for transfer report approval + 1 year + 6 months for thesis defence
  • PhD : 3 years + 6 months for thesis defence

  Scholarship Benefits

Successful candidates will receive support to cover:

  • Tuition fees at public Higher Education Institutions.
  • Living expenses during their studies in Mauritius.
  • Return airfare (economical route):
    • From the country of origin at the beginning of studies.
    • Back to the country of origin upon successful completion of studies.

  Application Process

Applications must be submitted through the nominating agency in the applicant’s country of citizenship.

  • The nominating agency is typically part of the Ministry of Education.
  • Section 5 of the application form must be endorsed and completed by the nominating agency.
  • Each agency may shortlist and endorse up to 15 eligible candidates (distribution between undergraduate and postgraduate programmes is at the agency’s discretion).
  • Completed applications must be submitted by 27 March 2026.

  • Completed Application Form (to be filled electronically before printing).
  • Supporting documents as outlined in the Guidelines for Applicants.
  • Endorsement from the nominating agency.

  Important Notes

  • Applications not processed through the nominating agency will not be considered.
  • The final decision for awarding scholarships rests solely with the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science and Technology.
  • The Government of Mauritius reserves the right not to offer any scholarship following this call.
