Study Safely in Italy Through UniTrento’s Reception and Training Project
In the 2025/2026 academic year, the University of Trento (UniTrento) has introduced a new Reception and Training Project designed for international students from conflict zones. This initiative provides a pathway for young people whose education has been interrupted by war, instability, or danger to continue their academic journey in a safe environment.
The program targets individuals living outside Italy who cannot begin or continue university studies in their home countries due to conflict or insecurity.
About the Program
A maximum of ten international students will be selected to participate in a one-year Foundation Year at the University of Trento.
During the Foundation Year, students will:

Attend individual university courses and preparatory classes for potential enrollment in degree programs.

Take Italian and English language courses offered by the University Language Centre.

Receive training in computer skills and other academic competencies needed for university success.
After completing the Foundation Year, students may apply for Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programs at UniTrento for the 2026/27 academic year, subject to meeting the necessary admission requirements.
Scholarship and Financial Support
Each selected student will benefit from a comprehensive financial and support package, including:

A scholarship of €7,200, paid in two installments.

Full tuition waiver for all courses during the Foundation Year.

Free accommodation in shared student housing provided by Opera Universitaria di Trento.

Two free meals per day at university cafeterias.

Free annual transportation pass for local and regional travel in the Trento area.

Coverage of travel expenses from the student’s home country to Trento.

Health insurance or registration in the Italian National Health Service.

Academic tutoring, psychological, and legal support services.
-
Access to sports, cultural, and integration activities organized by the university and local associations.
Application Deadline
The call for applications for the 2025–2026 academic year is open until 20 November 2025 at 12:00 (CET).

Eligibility and Required Documents
Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

Be a citizen of a non-EU country.

Reside outside Italy.
-
Come from a conflict-affected area.
-
Be currently unable to pursue university studies safely due to conflict or instability.

Have completed at least 12 years of schooling or hold a qualification that allows access to higher education in Italy.
Required documents include:

A copy of an identity document.

Proof of secondary or higher education.

A letter of motivation describing personal circumstances and reasons for applying.

Optional: Language certificates, CV, or other academic qualifications.
Applicants who cannot provide complete documentation due to conflict must complete the official Study History Form, available on the UniTrento website.
Selection Process
The selection process consists of two stages:

Document evaluation – Applications will be reviewed to confirm eligibility and assess academic background, motivation, and risk level.

Interview (if required) – Shortlisted candidates may be invited to an online interview for further assessment.
Final results will be published on the UniTrento “Students at Risk” webpage. Selected candidates will also receive an official email notification.
