The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is inviting applications for its prestigious Economist Program (EP) 2026, a unique three-year opportunity for recent PhD graduates to work on global economic policy challenges. Qualifications and Requirements
The IMF seeks top economists from across its 190 member countries who meet the following criteria:

Education: Recently completed or expecting to complete a PhD in economics by program start (September 2026). Relevant fields include macroeconomics, finance, public finance, monetary economics, international trade, political economy, econometrics, macro-climate, or related areas.

Expertise: Strong understanding of macroeconomics, with the ability to apply conceptual frameworks to complex policy issues.

Academic Record: Proven excellence in research and academic achievement.

Skills: Advanced analytical, quantitative, and IT capabilities.

Nationality: Must be a national of an IMF member country.

Age Requirement: Applicants must be under 34 years of age as of September 8, 2025.

Language: Strong English communication skills. Knowledge of additional languages is an asset but not mandatory.
The IMF is also looking for candidates who are motivated by global impact, adaptable to diverse work, culturally agile, and willing to travel for missions (typically 1–2 per assignment).
Selection Process
The IMF follows a competitive and structured selection process:

Application Screening – Review of academic records and supporting documentation.

Preliminary Interview – Conducted on campus or virtually, along with transcript and reference review.

Panel Interview & Assessment – Includes a writing test and review of the candidate’s job market paper.
Interviews will take place between October 2025 and January 2026, with offers extended in early February 2026. Selected candidates will begin the program in September 2026 in Washington, D.C.
