Call for Applications: Reporting Internal Displacements in Africa with Diaspora Africa’s Migration Media Hub 2025

Diaspora Africa, in collaboration with IOM Nigeria and the Embassy of Sweden in Abuja, is launching the second cohort of its Migration Media Hub, focused on Reporting Internal Displacements in Africa. This unique training opportunity aims to support and equip a new generation of young African journalists passionate about migration, forced displacement, and ethical storytelling.


About the Training

The program is a one-day hybrid training (in-person in Abuja and virtually for non-Abuja participants), designed to:

  • Empower journalists to report ethically and effectively on internal displacement.

  • Foster trauma-informed storytelling practices.

  • Build a pan-African community of migration-focused media professionals.

  • Provide reliable resources and context for covering internally displaced persons (IDPs).


What You Will Gain

By the end of the training, participants will:

  • Develop skills to report on forced migration and displacement with empathy and accuracy.

  • Join a growing network of African journalists focused on migration.

  • Access key resources and research tools to report on complex displacement issues.

  • Pitch and produce a post-training story on internal displacement.


Who Can Apply?

This opportunity is open to:

  • Young African journalists or writers aged between 23 and 35.

  • Individuals with a strong interest in migration and human rights.

  • Residents of Abuja, Nigeria, who can attend the physical training (transport stipends available).

  • Virtual applicants from across Africa are also welcome to apply.

  • All applicants must submit a one-page CV.

  • Commitment to pitching and producing a story after the training is required.


Location

  • In-person: Abuja, Nigeria (transport stipend provided for Abuja-based participants).

  • Virtual: Open to participants across Africa.

  • Note: Non-Abuja participants must cover their own travel and accommodation if attending in person.
