Lloyd’s Register Foundation has officially launched the 2025 Global Safety Evidence Centre funding call, inviting proposals from academic institutions, nonprofits, and industry partners worldwide to support cutting-edge research aimed at improving global safety outcomes. This initiative aligns with the Foundation’s 2024–2029 strategy to advance knowledge and practice in safety science and workplace safety.

About the Global Safety Evidence Centre

The Global Safety Evidence Centre is a new hub designed to gather, create, and communicate evidence on what works to make people and infrastructure safer. It addresses urgent global safety challenges such as workplace hazards, unsafe infrastructure, and lack of high-quality evidence in safety management. The Centre’s early focus is on two main areas:

Who Can Apply

Eligible applicants include:

Applications from across the globe are welcome, with special encouragement given to proposals involving Lloyd’s Register Foundation’s Ocean Centre countries—Brazil, Kenya, Ghana, Bangladesh, India, the Philippines, and Indonesia—and other coastal communities with similar safety and societal challenges.

What the Foundation Is Looking For

Proposals should present ambitious, evidence-based projects addressing one or more of the following:

Applications should feature well-designed research methodologies, a clear theory of change, and alignment with the Foundation’s mission to engineer a safer world.

Projects may focus on any of the following themes:

Funding and Duration

Grant awards will range between £100,000 and £250,000 for projects running up to two years. The Foundation will also consider proposals with smaller or larger budgets, especially those that span multiple research types, geographic regions, or are co-funded through other sources.

Application Process

The funding call follows a structured, three-stage application process:

  1. Register on the Flexigrant portal – Begin by creating an account on the Lloyd’s Register Foundation Flexigrant system.

  2. Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) – Available starting June 2025, EOIs must be submitted by 17 September 2025 (23:59 BST). Applicants will submit a project summary outlining the issue, approach, expected outcomes, and budget.

  3. Full Proposal Submission (Invitation Only) – Shortlisted applicants will be invited to submit full proposals by 12 December 2025.

A webinar for applicants will be held on 26 June 2025 (11:00–12:00 BST) to explain the funding call in more detail and answer applicant questions.
