Opportunity Guide for Youth on the Move: Unlock Learning, Training & Career Pathways

The Migration Youth and Children Platform, in partnership with UNICEF’s Migration Unit through the Youth on the Move program, has launched the Global Opportunity Guide for Youth on the Move.

Migration is a reality for millions of young people across the globe—and youth under 30 now account for 31% of all international migrants. Despite being among the most mobile populations, young migrants, refugees, and displaced persons often face critical barriers to education and employment opportunities—two of the most essential pathways to personal and professional growth.

What Is the Opportunity Guide?

This guide is designed to be the world’s largest resource hub for refugee, migrant, and displaced youth—helping them access learning, training, and career development programs no matter where they are.

It compiles opportunities from across the globe into one accessible, user-friendly resource.

Why This Matters

Findings from UNICEF’s Talent on the Move Report (2021) highlight the key barriers youth on the move face:

  • 70% cite lack of financial resources as a barrier to education

  • 32% report lack of information about available learning opportunities

  • 23% face challenges getting previous qualifications recognized

These barriers can stall education, hinder employment, and limit young people’s ability to contribute to and thrive in their communities.

How the Guide Helps

The Global Opportunity Guide aims to:

  • Expand Reach: Connect thousands of young people globally with programs that match their needs
  • Ensure Accessibility: Bring essential learning and work opportunities directly to marginalized youth
  • Promote Global Collaboration: Build a collective movement to open doors for migrant and refugee youth

This tool is more than a database—it’s a call to action to close the gap in opportunity and inclusion.

Who Should Use the Guide?

  • Youth on the move—refugees, migrants, displaced persons, and stateless youth under 30

  • Educators, NGOs, and community leaders working with mobile youth populations

  • Policymakers and practitioners developing inclusive education and employment programs

The guide is freely available and permissions are granted to educational and non-profit organizations upon request.
