DiscoverEU 2025: Travel Across Europe for Free if You’re 18

Are you 18 years old and a resident of the European Union or a country associated with the Erasmus+ programme? Then get ready for an adventure of a lifetime—DiscoverEU 2025 is here to make your dream of exploring Europe a reality.

What Is DiscoverEU?

DiscoverEU is an initiative under the Erasmus+ programme that gives 18-year-olds the chance to explore Europe for free with a travel pass—mainly by train. You’ll discover Europe’s rich cultural heritage, connect with people from across the continent, and build unforgettable memories.

Participants also receive the DiscoverEU European Youth Card, which offers discounts on cultural activities, local transportation, accommodation, food, and more.

When Is the Next Round?

The next application round opens on 2 April 2025 at 12:00 (midday Brussels time) and closes on 16 April 2025 at 12:00 (midday Brussels time). An “Apply Now” button will appear on the official DiscoverEU website once the application period begins.

Who Is Eligible?

To apply, you must:

• Be born between 1 July 2006 and 30 June 2007 (inclusive)

• Be a citizen or legal resident of:

  • An EU Member State, including Overseas Countries and Territories (OCTs), or

  • A third country associated with Erasmus+ (Iceland, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, or Türkiye)

• Provide a valid ID, passport, or residence card number

• Complete a short quiz as part of the application (unless applying as a group member)

Travel Details

If selected, you can travel for a minimum of 1 day and up to 30 days between 1 July 2025 and 30 September 2026.

Applicants from islands or remote areas can access alternative travel options. If you have a disability or health-related needs, additional support is available to help make your travel experience smooth. (See FAQ C.13 for more information.)

Can I Travel with Friends?

Yes, you can. You may apply individually or with a group of up to five people total, provided everyone meets the eligibility criteria. Group members can join using your application code.

You can also meet and plan with other DiscoverEU participants through the official DiscoverEU Facebook Group.

Become a DiscoverEU Ambassador

Selected participants become DiscoverEU Ambassadors, with the opportunity to share their travel stories on social media using the hashtag #DiscoverEU. Some may even choose to present their experiences at schools or local events to inspire others.
