Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) has introduced NOVAnext, a special initiative designed to support displaced federal workers and contractors. This program aims to help eligible individuals gain new skills, certifications, and career development resources completely free of charge, aiding them in transitioning to new career paths.

Who Can Apply?

To qualify for NOVAnext, applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

• Employment Status:

  • Displaced federal employees or contractors who were laid off on or after January 24, 2025.
  • Individuals with a future layoff notice do not qualify until the actual layoff occurs.

• Residency Requirements:

  • Must reside within NOVA’s service area, including:
    • Arlington County
    • Fairfax County
    • Loudoun County
    • Prince William County
    • Cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas, and Manassas Park

• Virginia Residency for FastForward Programs:

  • For FastForward funding eligibility, applicants must have been a Virginia resident for at least one year.

  • Entrepreneurship Programs:
    • Entrepreneurship Certificate
    • Entrepreneur Boot Camp

Fees:

• No cost to eligible participants. Tuition and fees for FastForward programs are fully covered.

How to Apply

1. Submit Interest Form:

   • Complete the NOVAnext Interest Form to stay updated on the full application process.

2. Complete Online Application (coming soon):

   • Provide proof of:
     • Layoff status
     • Residency
     • Previous federal employment or contract work
   • Select desired training programs.

3. Eligibility Review:

   • Virginia Career Works will verify applicant details.
   • Additional documents may be required, such as proof of layoff or residency.

4. Approval & Enrollment:

   • Once approved, participants will receive enrollment instructions and begin their training courses.
