African Union Internship Program: Call for Applications

The African Union (AU) invites applications from qualified individuals for its Internship Program. This opportunity is open to nationals of AU Member States, providing professional exposure to students and recent graduates across diverse fields.

The African Union is a Pan-African continental body dedicated to promoting unity, sustainable development, and cooperation among African nations. Headquartered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the AU seeks to enhance its capacity by engaging young professionals in its programs and activities.

Program Overview

The AU Internship Program offers hands-on experience in a multicultural environment. It aims to develop personal and professional skills while contributing to AU’s mission. Interns will support administrative and technical functions in various departments, including:

  • Office of the Chairperson & Deputy Chairperson
  • Economic Development, Trade, Industry & Mining (ETIM)
  • Education, Science, Technology & Innovation (ESTI)
  • Political Affairs, Peace & Security (PAPS)
  • Health, Humanitarian Affairs & Social Development (HHS)
  • Infrastructure & Energy (IE)
  • Human Resources Management (HRM)
  • Office of Strategic Planning & Delivery
  • Women, Gender & Youth (WGY)
  • Information & Communication
  • New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), and more.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree or hold a Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Be a citizen of an AU Member State.
  • Be fluent in at least one AU working language (Arabic, English, French, or Portuguese).
  • Be no older than 32 years at the time of selection.
  • Demonstrate integrity and good conduct.
  • Have no prior serious criminal convictions.

Internship Terms & Conditions

  • The AU does not provide financial assistance for travel, accommodation, or living expenses.
  • Interns must arrange their own medical insurance.
  • The internship duration is three months, renewable once.
  • The AU will provide reasonable support for visa arrangements.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and email applications.
  • Strong communication and writing skills.
  • Good interpersonal and teamwork abilities.
  • Fluency in an additional AU language is an advantage.

  • Motivation letter explaining internship expectations.
  • Valid passport or national ID copy.
  • Certified academic certificates.
  • Updated CV.
  • Recommendation letter from the educational institution.
