About ECOSOCC
The Economic, Social, and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC) is an advisory body of the African Union, established in 2004 to engage civil society in the development and integration processes of Africa. ECOSOCC serves as a bridge between the AU and civil society organizations, facilitating partnerships and collaboration for sustainable development. The council includes various social, private sector, and professional groups from AU member states and the African diaspora.
Introducing the Kenneth Kaunda Graduate Immersion Programme
ECOSOCC is proud to launch the Kenneth Kaunda Graduate Immersion Programme, an initiative designed to equip young Zambian graduates with hands-on experience in policy development and program implementation within an African Union organ. Named in honor of Zambia’s founding president and Pan-Africanist Kenneth Kaunda, this prestigious program aims to develop future leaders committed to Africa’s development.
Programme Objectives
The programme seeks to:
- Provide practical experience in international governance, policy formulation, and program execution.
- Foster Pan-African engagement and create career pathways within AU institutions.
- Enhance employability through mentorship, skill development, and exposure to international conferences.
- Develop expertise in diplomacy, research, advocacy, and project management.
- Encourage leadership, innovation, and problem-solving among young professionals.
- Strengthen collaboration between academic institutions and AU bodies for knowledge-sharing in policymaking.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must:
- Be under 35 years old, as per AU youth status guidelines.
- Hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in social sciences or a related discipline, awarded within the last five years.
- Have graduated with Distinction or Merit.
- Demonstrate strong analytical, research, and communication skills.
Required Documents
Applicants must submit:
- Letter of Motivation (Max 1 page, English, font size 12).
- Curriculum Vitae (CV).
- Certified copies of bachelor’s/master’s degree certificates.
- Certified academic transcripts.
- Two signed Letters of Recommendation.
Programme Structure & Benefits
- Duration: 9 months, with a possible extension to 1 year.
- Experiential Learning: Hands-on involvement in policy research, project coordination, and stakeholder engagement.
- International Exposure: Participation in at least one AU convening or meeting.
- Mentorship & Training: Guidance from senior professionals and AU experts.
- Career Advancement: Official recommendation upon completion.
- Networking: Access to AU institutions and key stakeholders.
- Financial Support: Monthly transport stipend provided (no salaried remuneration).
Duty Station
Trainees will be based at the ECOSOCC Secretariat, 8658 Kudu Road, Kabulonga, Lusaka. Logistical support will be provided for commuting.
Selection Process
The selection process includes:
- Application Submission Deadline: March 16, 2025.
- Shortlisting & Written Assessment: Candidates will be assessed on leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Interviews: Conducted in person or online, with document verification.
- Programme Start Date: April 1, 2025.
Language Requirements
- Fluency in English (spoken and written) is required.
- Knowledge of French is an advantage.
- Proficiency in an AU working language is beneficial.
