About the Indigenous Peoples Resilience Fund
The Indigenous Peoples Resilience Fund (IPRF) is guided by the values and wisdom of the communities it serves. Rooted in Indigenous ways of knowing and being, IPRF believes that “community knows what community needs.” Our mission is to empower Indigenous communities by providing resources where they are most needed, fostering environment and climate resilience, self-reliance, and abundance.
Our work is driven by the principles of giving back, shifting power, and ensuring equitable resource distribution. We honor the contributions of community recipients, volunteers, partners, and our team, all of whom play a vital role in strengthening our shared understanding of receiving and giving.
Bundles Program: Goals and Objectives
The Bundles Program embraces the principle that communities understand their own needs best. We encourage applications from Indigenous-led groups that propose bold and creative projects aimed at long-term community wellness and resilience.
Examples of eligible project areas include:
- Transferring traditional knowledge through land-based learning
- Strengthening community connectivity
- Supporting mental health and spiritual wellness through ceremony
- Fostering cultural programming
- Reclaiming food sovereignty
- Stewarding land and water for future generations
The application period closes on March 28, 2025, at 8:00 PM ET.
Project and Reporting Timelines
Projects should be completed within 18 months of receiving a Letter of Agreement confirming funding. A final report is required within six weeks of project completion.
Eligibility Criteria
Eligible Organizations
Applicants must demonstrate how their projects support Indigenous populations and positively impact their communities. To be eligible, organizations/groups must:
- Be Indigenous-led and serving, meaning Indigenous leadership and knowledge guide all levels of decision-making
- Have a minimum of 51% Indigenous representation on their governing body (Board, Council, or Committee)
- Fit into one of the following categories:
- Community groups
- Registered not-for-profit organizations
- Registered charities (qualified donees)
- Elected First Nations (bands), Métis, and Inuit Councils
- Have a bank account in the name of the organization/group
Ineligible Organizations
The following entities cannot apply for IPRF funding:
- Individuals
- For-profit companies
- Non-Indigenous-led organizations
- Federal, provincial, or territorial governments
- Organizations based outside of Canada
- The Crown or the United Nations
Eligible and Ineligible Projects
Eligible Projects: Projects must be Indigenous-led and serve Indigenous Peoples (First Nations, Métis, Inuit).
Ineligible Projects: The following projects are not eligible for funding
- Fundraising initiatives
- Completed projects
- Profit-generating activities
- Projects occurring outside Canada
Budget and Eligible Expenses
Eligible Expenses
Funding can be used for project-related costs, including but not limited to:
- Elder honorariums
- Wages and employment-related costs
- Professional service fees
- Disability supports for staff
- Materials and supplies
- Printing and communication
- Travel costs (following Government of Canada mileage rates)
- Utilities and insurance
- Rental of premises and equipment maintenance
- Performance monitoring and reporting costs
- Data collection and knowledge development activities
Ineligible Expenses
Funds cannot be used for:
- Purchasing land or buildings
- Expenses beyond the 18-month project timeline
- Costs covered by another funding source
How to Apply
Application Submission
Applications must be submitted online through the IPRF Application Form. Before starting the online form, applicants are encouraged to:
- Draft responses in advance
- Gather all required attachments
- Save and review responses before submission
If an applicant is unable to submit their application online, alternative formats are available. The IPRF team is available to assist with submission via:
- Phone call
- Video submission (3-5 minutes)
- Handwritten response
- Online written response
