Are YOU the Next African Conservation Leader?

African youth are at the forefront of environmental change—championing biodiversity, crafting bold policies, and building resilient futures. Now, it’s your turn to step up and make a difference!

The AWF Charles R. Wall Youth Leadership Program is calling on young African professionals with a passion for conservation to join the 2025 cohort. This is your chance to gain valuable skills, network with like-minded changemakers, and drive impact across the continent.

Opportunities for 2025:

1. Policy Fellows (15 Slots)

Join the Charles R. Wall Young African Policy Fellows initiative, a program in partnership with the UN Environment Programme, to influence international biodiversity governance.

  • Program Focus:
    Gain hands-on training in International Environmental Governance, particularly the Convention on Biological Diversity.
  • Program Duration: 9 months.
  • Application Deadline: Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 3:59 PM.

Eligibility:

  • Aged 20–35 years.
  • Nationals of African countries currently living and working within Africa.
  • Passionate about policy issues in international environmental governance, biodiversity, and related matters.
  • Work experience in sectors such as environmental sciences, social sciences, international relations, and more.
  • Francophone applicants must have basic English skills.

2. Conservation Leadership & Management Fellows (15 Slots)

Strengthen your leadership and management skills for on-the-ground conservation impact. This fellowship is designed for young professionals passionate about implementing conservation projects and leading environmental action.

  • Program Focus:
    Develop personal, team, and organizational leadership skills to achieve transformational impact.
  • Application Deadline: Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 3:59 AM.

Eligibility:

  • Aged 20–35 years.
  • Nationals of African countries currently living and working within Africa.
  • Practitioners in conservation or related fields such as research, science, HR, finance, law, fundraising, or community engagement.
  • Minimum of a diploma in any field.
  • Francophone/Lusophone applicants must have basic English skills.
