About the Role

The Applied AI for Science team focuses on developing advanced AI models and algorithms to address complex scientific and engineering challenges across various scales, from atomistic to process-level solutions. With a diverse team of computer scientists, chemists, biologists, and engineers, this group leverages AI to make a tangible difference in the real world.


Your Key Responsibilities

As a Research Intern, you will:

  • Contribute to the development and application of AI models to solve scientific challenges.
  • Collaborate across disciplines, drawing expertise from Microsoft Research and Azure teams.
  • Translate innovative research into impactful solutions.

Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science, Chemistry, or a related STEM field.
  • Availability to work onsite in Redmond for the internship duration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with HPC or cloud computing systems and performing quantum chemical calculations at scale.
  • Proficiency in Python or similar programming languages.
  • Experience applying machine learning to scientific problems.
  • Familiarity with tools such as:
    • Quantum Chemistry Software: NWChem, PySCF, ORCA
    • Molecular Dynamics Software: GROMACS, LAMMPS, ASE
  • Knowledge of sampling techniques or design of experiments.

Compensation & Benefits

The base pay for this internship ranges from $6,550 to $12,880 per month, with higher rates for specific locations like the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City. Additional benefits may apply.
