Africa Scholarship Programme for Master’s Degree at Wageningen University & Research

The Africa Scholarship Programme (ASP) offers a unique opportunity for talented and motivated students from across Africa to pursue a Master’s degree at Wageningen University & Research. The program aims to foster capacity building in Africa by providing access to high-quality education, while also supporting the personal and academic growth of students from the continent.

Scholarship Components:

The Africa Scholarship Programme covers the following expenses for selected students for the entire duration of the Master’s programme (24 months):

  • Travel: Round-trip travel from your home country to The Netherlands.
  • Living Allowance: Monthly living allowance to support you during your studies.
  • Tuition Fees: Full coverage of tuition fees for the entire duration of the programme.
  • Visa and Health Insurance: Costs associated with obtaining a visa and mandatory health insurance are also covered.

Eligibility Requirements:

To be considered for the Africa Scholarship Programme, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Citizenship: You must be a citizen of an African country.
  2. Application to MSc Programme: You need to have applied for one of the Master’s programmes at Wageningen University & Research before the given deadline (1 February 2025). For more information on how to apply, please see the MSc Application Guide.
  3. Unconditional Admission: You must have received an unconditional offer of admission to the MSc programme you applied for.
  4. Academic Excellence: You must have an outstanding academic record with a First Class Honours degree and a GPA of 80% or higher in your undergraduate studies.
  5. Preference for First-Time Master’s Students: Preference will be given to students who have not previously obtained a Master’s degree.

Only applicants who meet all of the above requirements will be eligible to be invited to the selection process for the Africa Scholarship Programme.


Selection Procedure:

The selection for the Africa Scholarship Programme is by invitation only. It is not possible to apply directly for the scholarship. The selection procedure follows several stages, and it is essential to meet the required deadlines to be considered.

Step-by-Step Selection Process:

  1. Step 1: Apply for an MSc Programme by 1 February 2025
    Ensure that you apply for one of the MSc programmes at Wageningen University & Research before the application deadline.
  2. Step 2: Selection Procedure Steps
    After the application deadline, the university will invite selected candidates to take part in the next phase of the selection process. Approximately 40 candidates will be chosen to proceed.
  3. Step 3: Result of the Selection Process
    Results will be communicated after the next steps are completed.
  4. Step 4: Updates and Final Decision
    Candidates will be kept updated about the status of their application throughout the selection procedure.

Important Dates:

To ensure you don’t miss any deadlines, here’s a quick overview of the important dates for the Africa Scholarship Programme:

  • 1 February 2025: Deadline for applying to an MSc programme at Wageningen University & Research.
  • 13 March 2025: Invitation of selected candidates (approx. 40) to participate in the further selection process.
  • 25 March 2025: Deadline for completing the assignment.
  • 8 April 2025: Notification of candidates invited for online interviews (approx. 20 candidates will be interviewed).
  • 22 April – 1 May 2025: MS Teams interviews with selected candidates.
  • 8 May 2025: Final results of the selection process communicated to candidates.
