About the Program
HCC provides invaluable hands-on experience, mentorship, professional development, and networking opportunities that help students succeed in the health sector. Our program aims to empower the next generation of diverse health professionals and leaders, offering both experiential learning and exposure to various career paths within the health field.
The 2025 Summer Internship and Health Equity Scholars programs provide full-time, paid internships in public health, health services, behavioral health, and more. The application deadline is December 11, 2024.

Experiential Learning:
HCC offers paid, full-time summer internships where interns gain hands-on experience, contribute to meaningful projects, and develop their professional skills. These internships complement academic learning and prepare students for success in their health careers.
Mentorship:
Interns are paired with experienced health professionals who provide mentorship throughout the program. The HCC team and a network of partners also offer guidance and support.

HCC fosters a community of interns across various regions, connected by shared interests and career goals. Interns also become part of HCC’s extensive alumni network of over 5,000 members.
Program Eligibility
HCC is open to undergraduate students and recent graduates interested in the following areas:
- Public health, health policy, and health services
- Behavioral health and biopharma
- Community health improvement and health equity
- Medicine, nursing, and dentistry combined with public health
Interns work in various settings, including hospitals, health systems, government agencies, community health centers, and advocacy organizations. HCC prioritizes students committed to serving underserved communities and advancing health equity.
Application Process
The HCC application process involves the following steps:
- Online Application: Submit an application, including a resume and short essays.
- HCC Interview: Selected candidates participate in interviews with HCC staff.
- Host Organization Interview: Finalists interview with potential placement sites.
- Final Placement: HCC makes final placement decisions based on applicant-host organization fit.

- Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, Boston, MA: Supported process improvement efforts at the Sagoff Breast Imaging & Diagnostic Center.
- Duke Health System, Durham, NC: Assisted quality improvement projects at the Duke Birthing Center.
- Kaiser Permanente, Los Angeles, CA: Led focus groups and presented data on culturally responsive care for hospital residents.
Health Equity Scholars Program
The Health Equity Scholars Program (HESP), launched in response to COVID-19, offers a virtual experience that empowers students from under-resourced communities. Scholars develop skills in leadership, data analysis, project management, and cultural competency. They also receive mentorship, participate in team consulting projects, and engage with health equity experts.
