The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Stellenbosch University, in partnership with the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, is offering a limited number of full-time scholarships for Master’s (100% research) or PhD studies. Scholarships are available in these research areas:
– African Cultural Studies
– The Anthropocene and Ecocriticism
– Identity, Gender and/or Queer Studies
Eligibility Criteria:
– A minimum of 75% for your previous degree.
– Submission of a writing sample (e.g., MA thesis for PhD applicants, Honours essay for Master’s applicants, or any published work).
– Age limits: 30 years (Master’s) and 35 years (PhD).
– Applicants don’t need to be registered or have a supervisor but should check supervisor availability.
Recommended Background:
– Publications or research experience.
– Awards, grants, or relevant professional experience.
– Proficiency in languages beyond English for academic purposes.
Application Requirements:
– Application form, motivation letter (600 words), and research proposal (1000 words).
– Certified copies of transcripts, degree certificates, and ID/passport.
Scholarship Value:
– PhD: Up to R400,000 over three years.
– Master’s: Up to R105,000 over 18 months to two years.
