Junior and Senior Fellowship Programme 2025

The University of Bayreuth Centre of International Excellence “Alexander von Humboldt” is currently accepting applications for its Fellowship Programme for the year 2025. The programme promotes excellent research at the University of Bayreuth (UBT) and aims to advance internationalisation of research and networking with the best universities worldwide.

  • Senior Fellowships: Award sum 40,000 €
  • Junior Fellowships: Award sum 20,000 €
  • Additional family allowance of 250€ for Fellows accompanied by at least one child

Goals

The Centre supports academic exchange across disciplines, cultures, and countries, engaging in activities that open the research community to society and politics. Successful applicants will become Fellows at the Centre and will benefit from the university’s research environment and its seven faculties.

Collaboration with Local Host

Fellows are invited to carry out their research projects in Germany in cooperation with a local host at UBT. Applicants must identify a researcher in Bayreuth before submitting their application. The local hosts provide office, lab space, and infrastructure support.

Requirements

  • The Fellowships are awarded to individuals from abroad with challenging and innovative research projects of top academic quality through a merit-based selection process.
  • The selection criteria focus on academic excellence of both the applicant and the cooperative project.

Diversity and Gender Equality

The programme values diversity in its awardees and is committed to gender equality. Female scholars and those who can contribute to the university’s research diversity are encouraged to apply.

Application Deadline

Submit your complete application via the online form by October 18, 2024.

For more information, refer to the Application Guidelines for Fellowships. Apply here.

* Members of the Cluster of Excellence (as defined by § 11 (3) of the Cluster Rules) cannot act as host if the research focus of the application is on African Studies. This is due to regulations of the German Research Foundation stipulating that the Centre cannot provide funding to enhance resources of the university’s Cluster of Excellence. In case of doubt, please contact our office before applying.
