Apply for Short Term Grant from the University of Bayreuth Centre “Alexander von Humboldt”
About the Program:
The University of Bayreuth Centre of International Excellence “Alexander von Humboldt”, known as the Bayreuth Humboldt Centre (BHC), is now accepting applications for Short Term Grants for the year 2024.
Details & Funding:
- Short Term Grants are open to all disciplines
- Grants are intended for stays of about 1-3 weeks duration
- Reimbursement of travel expenses between the home institution and Bayreuth
- Accommodation costs in Bayreuth will be covered
- Costs will be refunded up to a maximum of 3,500 €
- Available to researchers regardless of their field of research
Goals:
- Promote academic exchange across disciplines, cultures, and countries
- Foster networking between established and younger researchers
- Applicants are encouraged to familiarize themselves with UBT’s focus areas and research strengths
Collaboration with Local Host:
- Short Term Grantees are invited to carry out their research projects in collaboration with a local host at UBT
- Applicants must identify a host in Bayreuth prior to submitting their application
- Local hosts provide office and lab space as well as up-to-date infrastructure
- Applications are welcome from all disciplines, with some exceptions
Requirements:
- Short Term Grants are awarded to individuals from abroad with challenging and innovative research projects
- Selection is based on academic excellence and the quality of the cooperative project
- Diversity is valued, and gender equality is a priority
- Female scholars and those who can contribute to a diverse research profile are encouraged to apply

* Members of the Cluster of Excellence (as defined by § 11 (3) of the Cluster Rules) cannot act as host if the research focus of the application is on African Studies. This is due to regulations of the German Research Foundation stipulating that the Centre cannot provide funding to enhance resources of the university’s Cluster of Excellence. In case of doubt, please contact our office before applying.
