Stellenbosch University (SU) invites applications for its Postgraduate Scholarship Programme (PSP) for the 2025 academic year. SU aims to be Africa’s leading research-intensive university, renowned globally for its excellence, inclusivity, and innovation. Through the PSP, the university supports emerging research talent and builds capacity for the next generation of researchers.

Scholarship Opportunities

Both full and partial scholarships are available based on faculty-specific criteria. International students are encouraged to apply. All awards are conditional upon meeting both the scholarship and admission requirements of the respective postgraduate program.

Application Process

Applicants must submit separate applications for the postgraduate study program and the scholarship.

  2. Apply for postgraduate study: Complete your application and note the relevant faculty.

  4. Apply for the PSP: Use the correct faculty-specific application links, available on page 3 of the call document.

Note: If you were previously funded by NSFAS or ISFAP during your undergraduate studies, include proof of funding with your application (e.g., fee statement or institutional letter).

Terms and Conditions

Key conditions for the scholarship include:

  • Eligibility: Applicants must be full-time students enrolled in Honours, Master’s, or Doctoral programs.
  • Funding periods: Honours (1 year), Master’s (2 years), and Doctoral (3 years).
  • Scholarship limits: Recipients cannot exceed the maximum scholarship value through additional funding unless exceptional circumstances apply.
  • Work restrictions: Recipients can work a maximum of 20 hours per week while studying but cannot hold full-time employment.
  • Progress Reports: Students must submit progress reports in June and November to continue receiving funding.

Expectations from Awardees

  • Research output: Master’s students must prepare at least one peer-reviewed article, while doctoral students must prepare at least two articles ready for submission.
  • Adherence to policies: Recipients must comply with SU’s Student Disciplinary Code and institutional research ethics policies.
